Description
Vintage tin clad fire door from a building in historic downtown Durham, NC. These heavy doors hung in doorways between adjoining old buildings and were held open by a weight on a rope. If the fire burned through the rope, the door slid shut and prevented the fire from spreading. The metal is a beautiful pale green with some tan areas on the back.
The plate with the labeling says:
MANUFACTURED BY THE F.L. SAINO MANUFACTURING CO., INC
MEMPHIS, TENN., USA
and
UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES, INC
FIRE DOOR
FOR OPENING THE FIRE WALL
(then a number i can't read)
this thing is amazing-looking and would be an awesome addition to a renovation of an old building, or to grow vines on in a garden, or pretty much anywhere.
measurements:
71.5” high end
67.5” low end
50” wide
2.5 thick
it is currently in the basement where it has resided i'm assuming since it was first installed, i believe in the 1930s/40s. it is extremely heavy and will need to go up 1 flight of stairs to street level (it's a wide staircase). Includes weights and rope.
