$ 211.19

Availability: 100 in stock
  • Refund will be given as: Money Back
  • Original/Reproduction: Antique Original
  • Condition: Salvaged from an 1854 home in Sterling, PA. This was the side door of the home. It's made of solid Douglas fir or pine and is completely painted white. It has 2 windows--one w/original, wavy glass & the other newer, replacement glass--with glass on top and panels below. Notice that the panels are raised on the exterior side and recessed (flat) panels. No hardware included. Considering it's age, the door is in good condition. It has plenty of blemishes and quirks as detailed above, however, it is structurally sound. It has the typical scrapes, scratches, small nail holes that you would expect to find on an old, used door. However, there is no warp, rot, or serious breaks. Once the door is sanded, holes/cracks puttied, and paint or stain is applied, most of the blemishes would be removed. What remains will be covered by paint or stain, and only appear a "character mark." The glass is also intact and also in great condition with only subtle scratches.*FULL DESCRIPTION BELOW*

Antique 1854 Front Entry Door w/2 Window & 4 Carved Panels
    What an  extraordinary find! Beautiful
, antique, exterior  door salvaged from an 1854 home in Sterling, PA. This was the side door of  the home.
    It's made
of solid Douglas fir or pine and is completely painted white. It has 2 windows--one  w/original, wavy glass & the other newer, replacement glass--with glass on top and panels below. Notice  that the panels are raised on the exterior side and recessed (flat) panels--this  is an uncommon feature.
When most people hear "pine" they think of a cheap, weak, and    soft wood. New pine hewn from 10 - 20 year old trees doesn't have the  same insect-resistant,  rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that  old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old.
Old pine   is also much harder and stronger than young pine
    .
    Hardware
    :
The door was mounted on an oak frame with thick, heavy-duty hinges. The last  photo shows the hinges and also part of the frame with 4" long 1/4" thick square  nails sticking out--amazing!
Although we salvaged the hardware, the locksets did not fair well  over the years and were too corroded to restore. The door is not equipped with any hardware,  however, we have a good selection of  period hardware to outfit them (check out our eBay store).
    * If you would like any of the hardware holes plugged with solid wood, please email us for a quote.
    Quirks & Considerations
    :
The window with the replaced glass was widened and about 3/8" of the lock stile  was shaved off to accommodate this window. This expansion also created gaps  (1/4" & 3/8") between the 2 horizontal, cross rails and the lock stile. We could  fix this
    --email us  for a quote.
We could replace  the newer, replacement glass with old, wavy glass to match the original lite for  . This would also include replacing the square replacement molding that  someone placed at the top of the window when he/she
    replaced the glass.
There was a  break in the cross rail, near the lock housing on the interior side (see 2nd to  last photo)
.  It looks like the break was secured using only glue and whoever did it did not  care about how good the repair looked. We could clean it up and ensure the break  is properly fixed
    --email us  for a quote.
The door's height was unevenly cut by 1/4" at some point, most  likely to compensate for an old warped floor or settling foundation. We could  cut it  to an even 75 7/8", cut it shorter/narrower, or even build it  up to  make it taller/wider--email us for a quote.
    Condition
    :
Considering it's age, the door is in good condition. It has plenty of blemishes  and quirks as detailed above, however, it is structurally sound.
    It  has
the typical scrapes, scratches, small nail holes that you would expect to find on an old, used door.
    However, there is
no warp, rot, or serious breaks.
    Once the door is
sanded,  holes/cracks puttied, and paint or stain is applied, most of the blemishes would be removed. What remains will be covered by paint or stain, and only appear a "character mark."
The glass is  also intact and also in great condition with only subtle scratches.
    Refinish/Repaint
    :
We  could refinish, repaint, or partially or completely strip the doors to prepare  any of them for you to repaint or refinish.
See  the last photos in this auction as an example of our work.
Email  us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a  quote.
    Swing
    :
The door is set up to swing inwardly towards the left. However, we can modify it to swing towards the right--
    email us for a quote.
    Modification
    :
We  could also modify this door to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could  make a frame, trim or add to the height or width,  replace glass with screen,  reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a small  description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
